If you hadn’t heard, hundreds of people were turned away from Apple Stores last night, iPhone 3G-less. However, being gluttons for punishment — and having nothing to do over the weekend — they’ve returned in droves to Apple Stores, with reports of lines longer than 200 people stretching out from The Cube, Apple Store Chicago (pictured) and even a store in Durham, NC. Apple offered up vouchers last night, at least at some stores, to anyone still waiting in line, so those folks can show up whenever and jump the line for a phone — about 30 of them are lined up at The Cube currently. If you don’t mind you can let us know in tips what the current status on the line / stock is at your local Apple or AT&T store is, and we’ll try to keep track of this mayhem through the weekend. No, really, will it? We’re on pins and needles here. Sure, the original blended up fine, but with all the G’s in this thing, perhaps not even the mighty Blendtec can reduce it to rubble. Seems that just about anyone inside of Asus is authorized to discuss the Eee PC roadmap judging by the whirlwind of information we always get prior to an official launch. Case in point: an unnamed “company representative” says that a 3G version of the Eee PC will be launching as early as September in Europe. An alternative to the WiMax version already annouced and demonstrated on Sprint’s Xohm. The prices for the presumed HSDPA/HSUPA enabled mini-laptops will of course vary depending upon contract. Can’t wait? No worries, why not roll your own? Should be a snap now that the Eee is riding that bigger 9-inch chassis.

In a world filled with painful delays, seeing ASUS’ 10-inch Eee PC 1000H on sale this soon after being introduced at Computex is like a breath of fresh air. Or mildly stagnant air, considering we’re not anywhere close to Taiwan. Nevertheless, said machine is indeed up for grabs for those on that side of the planet, and just as we expected, it’s demanding NT$18,988 (or around $625). C’mon ASUS, you’ve got swarms of North Americans (and Europeans, etc.) just champing at the bit here.

Like many, you were probably planning on hanging back, sipping on Bacardi 151, and waiting for your new iPhone 3G to arrive in the mail following a timely pre-order. Unfortunately for your foot-kicked-onto-desk plans, Apple and AT&T have something else in mind. Word on the street is that you will not be able to purchase and / or activate a new device via any other method than in-store, thus doing a full 180 on the way the dream team was doing business last time around. So not only has Apple’s revenue sharing gone into that good night, but it appears the innovative DIY activation that was such a big deal this time last year is shuffling off as well. So what gives guys? And more importantly, why are you making us leave the house? Hear what AT&T reps had to say about it after the break.
